The American Dental Association recommends that you brush your teeth twice each day. This should then be followed up by flossing each evening. This will help remove stray food material and bacterial plaque before it can harden into tartar or bolster tooth decay.

Using high-quality oral hygiene products when you brush and floss our teeth is critical for the effectiveness of your oral hygiene routine. Unfortunately, many manufacturers use hyperbolic marketing claims to over emphasize the quality of products that only have cosmetic value.

To better help consumers identify quality oral hygiene products on the retail level, the American Dental Association instituted their Seal of Acceptance program. Since its inception in 1931, it has become the industry standard for identifying a high-quality oral hygiene product.

A product’s participation in the program is voluntary. If a manufacturer wants to earn the ADA Seal of Acceptance for an oral hygiene product, they can submit it to the ADA for testing and research.

The ADA’s laboratory will then then test and research the active ingredients for safety and its effectiveness as part of an oral hygiene routine. If the product meets the rigorous guidelines, it will earn the right to print the Seal of Acceptance on the label. This means you should feel confident in its ability to help maintain the good oral health of you and your family.

As an added convenience, the ADA also provides an index of all oral hygiene products that have earned the seal on their website.
